Message from the ISP Centennial Committee

April 1, 2022, will mark 100 years since the founding of the Illinois State Police (ISP), 100 years of integrity, 100 years of service to people of Illinois, 100 years of pride in who we’ve been and who we’ve become. To honor this historic moment, the ISP Centennial Committee, including the ISP Heritage Foundation, Fraternal Order of Police, Association of Black Law Enforcement Officers, Command Officers Association, Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association, Asian American Law Enforcement Association, Teamsters, AFSCME, Retired ISP Officers Association, and many others from the ISP family have planned numerous special events, activities, displays, artwork, and memorabilia.

Each sworn ISP officer will be issued a special centennial star that combines the prevalent gold color along with the silver color of a Trooper to be worn during the centennial year. Each patrol district will receive a special centennial squad car that combines the most advanced vehicle with the look and markings of historic Illinois State Police vehicles. Along with the Trooper 262 Project, educational panels detailing the storied history and progress of the Illinois State Police will be on display at the state Capitol, the Thompson Center, and in various locations throughout the state during the centennial celebration and beyond.

The ISP Heritage Foundation has worked with Glock, Inc. to make available a special firearm engraved with the ISP centennial seal.

Historic spaces within ISP Central Headquarters have been refurbished to include a new Centennial Hall that honors the historic roles, missions and divisions of the ISP, including Patrol, Investigations, Forensics and Telecommunications.

The Division of the Academy and Training will be hosting a statewide centennial EVOC competition at Pawnee.

In October we will hold an ISP Centennial Fall Festival at the Illinois State Fairgrounds for all employees of the ISP, as well as family, to kick off the centennial and combine the Annual Awards Ceremony with a delayed but much-deserved celebration of the graduation of Cadet Classes 130, 131, and 132 in a family friendly environment.

Both the United States Congress and the Illinois General Assembly will be presenting resolutions honoring the ISP centennial and Trooper Day will be celebrated at the State Capitol in Springfield, on April 1, 2022.

Our “ancestor” department and partner, the Illinois Department of Transportation, as well as the Illinois Toll Highway Authority, will be recognizing the centennial through messaging around the state.

Special centennial patches, challenge coins, pins, artwork, and other memorabilia and audio/visual displays honoring the centennial will also be available.

The PIO is working with media outlets around the state to raise awareness of the ISP centennial, our history and future, and scheduling other centennial recognition events around the state at sporting events and other venues.

The centennial celebration will culminate in the formal Illinois State Police Centennial Dinner and Gala at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Springfield, Illinois, on April 2, 2022.

In 1922, no one could have imagined the ISP would evolve into the Agency we are today. Together, the Illinois State Police family will celebrate an incredible century of integrity, service, and pride; and together we will move forward with unlimited potential into the second century of the Illinois State Police.
