Below is roughly the email I sent to both our Senators, tweaked a little differently for each.  Please feel free to copy/paste/modify it, if it will help you to contact them yourself.
Also, please pass it on.

Email | U.S. Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois    (select Social Security)

I ask that you please support H.B. 1205 and S. 915, regarding the Social Security Fairness Act.  These two bills would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO) in current Social Security law.
I am a State of Illinois retiree who has worked a second job, paying into Social Security at 100% of what I owed in taxes.  I have reached my 40 quarters (but not 35 years) and will soon be able to receive my Social Security benefit.  But this benefit will be reduced by about 60% because I worked for the State of Illinois.  This is not fair!  My pension from the State of Illinois has nothing to do with the Federal Government.  The Federal Government is not “out” any money because of the pension I receive.  In fact, I do pay Federal taxes on this state pension every year.
I know that with your support, it will help this Bill pass.  I also know that the affected people from the State of Illinois: Teachers, Police Officers, Firefighters, and the thousands of other public service employees affected, will be forever grateful and give you their full support in the future.
Again, please support repeal of this law and I hope that you are personally able to review my e-mail!
